Founded by sisters Stephanie and Maria Catalina Martinez, Waimari creates a line resortwear/high-summer of cover-ups and light summer clothing with an entirely one of a kind handmade touch, crafted by Colombian artisans using traditional motifs reinvented for a global appeal. Crafted from the finest cotton, these pieces are must-have South American clothing items.
The brand has an international vision and is aimed at women with a traveller spirit. They design clothing to make women feel free and natural. A vast choice of easy to wear and free spirited lace tunics, cotton crochet kaftans, flowy pareos and comfy jumpsuits, to travel with you from city to beach, to bar. Waimari, with its 100% handmaade design inspired by the Wayuu ethnic group, is for all types of women who want to both look and feel beautiful, and rock the South American clothing spirit.
How did the brand originate and how has it evolved?
Stephanie and Maria Catalina Martinez grew up surrounded by fabrics. Both their grandparents and their parents had dedicated themselves to the textile and clothing industry and were involved in the handmade South American clothing circles. As a result, the sisters spent much of their childhood and adolescence in textile factories. Both developed an affinity for fashion, design and everything related to international luxury trends. In addition the two sisters have been globetrotters. Stephanie lived in France, where she studied Business Administration in Lyon. Subsequently, she specialized in Fashion Marketing in New York at the Parsons School of Design. In this city she worked with exclusive brands like Gucci, Michael Kors and Cartier.
Maria has studied in Barranquilla, the United States and Europe. She graduated from Textile Design at the Autonomous University of the Caribbean. The sisters combined their knowledge of the manufacturing process with international trends and created Waimari. The clothing are designed for elegant women who appreciate fine details, sophisticated fabrics and innovative silhouettes; and who love the uniqueness of the South American clothing spirit!
Waimari – Handmade South American Clothing

Waimari’s creations are inspired by the rich cultural heritage of the Colombian, Caribbean and Latin women. The sisters call their style gip-setter, a mix between gypsy and jet setter – women with a traveler spirit who want to feel free and relaxed. In short, Waimari is for women who want to look sexy, beautiful, different and unique in any corner of the world.
